Writing in Inc., Thomases warns that “just because someone can use social media for personal benefit doesn’t mean they know how to manage it for a business.” She spoke with William Ward, a social media professor at Syracuse University, to help draft her list of seven social media manager hiring mistakes. First, Thomases and Ward say, “ask what kind of professional social media training and certifications candidates have” instead of relying of their personal social media presence. Next, have them “log into their social media accounts with you” so that they can “show you what they do professionally.” Look for any “breaches in social media etiquette or inappropriate conversations” to weed out the candidates who lack professionalism.
