first_imgRoaming charges for mobile phones are to be finally abolished by the summer of 2017.The charges have been a source of much annoyance for phone-users across Donegal for many years.Welcoming the news, Fine Gael Minister of State Joe McHugh, “I welcome confirmation from my colleague, Dublin MEP, Brian Hayes today that roaming charges across the EU will be abolished by June 2017. The decision comes following agreement reached yesterday between the Commission, the Council and the Parliament.” From April 2016 a phrasing out of roaming charges will commence, with roaming charges being abolished by June 2017“I welcome today’s announcement as this is a decision I have been calling on for some time now. This is great news for Irish people and for all EU citizens, who have been paying immoderate mobile phone charges for too long.
