Football Visits Campbell On Saturday

first_imgThe Drake University football team travels to Buies Creek, N.C. on Saturday to take on PFL foe Campbell at 5 p.m. (CST) for the first time since 2012.Saturday’s contest will be the sixth all-time meeting between Drake and the Fighting Camels. The Bulldogs hold a perfect 5-0 record over CU.Drake is coming of a dominating, 41-3, victory over Stetson to open PFL play last week, while the Camels dropped a one-point decision, 25-24, at Bulter.  Drake’s defense headlined the team’s PFL opening win by surrendering just 178 yards to Stetson while recording seven sacks and forcing two turnovers. The Bulldogs held Stetson to a school-record low zero rushing yards. The Bulldogs rank fifth in the country in sacks with 15 and are led by John Hugunin, Taylor Coleman, Mack Marrin and Tanner Evans with two sacks apiece. Hugunin leads Drake with 31 tackles, including 5.5 for a loss, the most in the PFL, while Marrin ranks ninth in the PFL with 4.0 tackles for a loss.Drake’s offense is led by junior running back Conley Wilkins, who has scored 30 of Drake’s 103 points this season and rushed for 357 yards, the third-most in PFL.For the Fighting Camels, junior running back De’Shawn Jones leads the team’s running game and ranks second in the PFL with 508 yards. Last week, Jones rushed for 133 yards on 17 carries in a 25-24 setback against Butler.Defensively, Campbell leads the league and ranks fifth in the nation with allowing only 266.2 yards of total offense per game.
